The entrapment of Floyd Collins in a remote Kentucky cave in 1925 was one of the most sensational news events of the early 20th century, attracting thousands of spectators to the rescue site and leading it to be recognized as the first “media circus” in the history of American journalism. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of that tragic event, University Press of Kentucky will release a revised edition of Trapped! The Story of Floyd Collins, by Robert K. Murray and Roger W. Brucker. With a new afterword by Brucker, this third edition includes a foreword by playwright and director Tina Landau, whose musical Floyd Collins will have its Broadway debut on April 21. Preview performances begin March 28 at the Vivan Beaumont Theatre. Tickets are available here.
